Accessible Libraries: Supporting Patrons With Hearing Loss

| FreeLibrary staff are invited to attend a professional development training focused on understanding and effectively serving patrons with hearing loss. This session will be led by a representative from the Hearing Loss Association of America Capital District Chapter and is designed to equip staff with the knowledge, skills, and language necessary to provide inclusive, respectful service to all library visitors.
Topics will include:
- An overview of hearing loss and its impact on daily communication
- Communication strategies for interacting with patrons who are hard of hearing
- Perspectives from the hearing loss community on assistive technologies available through libraries
- Guidance on delivering respectful, person-centered service
- Appropriate language and terminology – best practices and what to avoid
This event will be held in-person at UHLS. Staff at all levels are encouraged to attend.
