Talking Books
Talking Books are recordings of unabridged, popular fiction and
nonfiction material, read by professional readers and reproduced
on long-play, 4-track tapes. They are prepared by the Library of
Congress for individuals who are unable to read print materials
because of a visual or physical disability and distributed by mail
to qualified New York State residents through the New York State
Talking Book and Braille Library http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/tbbl/.
Although very similar in presentation to recorded books and
books-on-tape found in bookstores and public libraries, talking
books must be played on a special cassette player that is designed
for 15/16 IPS, 4-track tapes.
