Westerlo Public Library
POLICY ON COMPUTER USE AND INTERNET ACCESS

  1. Before using the Homework Center Computer for the first time, a patron must register by reading and signing a copy of the Policy on Computer Use and Internet Access. A list of registered users will be kept at the circulation desk. Users must have a library card valid at the Westerlo Public Library.
  2. Users must sign in in the Computer Log Book at the circulation desk.
  3. Patrons may reserve one half hour time slot in person or by phone. Only one registration per day is allowed. Extra time is available on a walk in basis. Reservations will be held for 5 minutes beyond the reserved time then cancelled.
  4. To prevent viruses, patrons may NOT use their own diskettes in the library’s computer. To download or save data, one must purchase a diskette from the library for $1.00. The library will store the diskette if the patron wishes to use it another time. Once a diskette leaves the library it CANNOT be used in the library’s computer again. Information may NOT be stored in the hard drive of the library’s computer.
  5. The computer should NOT be turned off at any time. See the librarian if there is a problem.
  6. Internet filtering software is installed on the computer to block inappropriate sites from children. However, filtering devices are not 100% reliable. Parents and guardians, not library staff or board, are responsible for information accessed. Children under 10 must have an adult at the computer with them. Patrons under 18 years of age must have signed parental authorization to use the computer – no exceptions.
  7. The library computers may not be used for any illegal or unethical purposes. Patrons may not display texts or graphics of an obscene, inappropriate or offensive nature.
  8. Patrons must use care when using the computer, printer and software. Patrons are responsible for the damage caused to the library’s equipment and parents are responsible for the damage caused by their children. The Westerlo Public Library is not responsible for lost information when using the library’s computer or software.
  9. A printer is available. There is no charge for the first five pages of text only. Each additional page of text and each page of graphics will be $ .20 each.
  10. Violating these guidelines may lead to loss of computer privileges.

I have read and agree to follow the Westerlo Public Library Computer and Internet Use Policy.
