| Subject: Public Access to the
Internet
Policy: The Sand Lake Town Library provides public
access to the Internet as an integral part of its commitment to participate
in the role of being a source of information, intellectual development,
and enrichment for its membership.
The Sand Lake Town Library has no control over the information accessed
on the Internet. Internet users, not the library staff, are responsible
for the information selected or accessed. Children through the fourth
grade may not access the Internet unless supervised by a parent or guardian.
Procedure: Prior to use, the Internet Policy should
be read.
Youth under the age of eighteen will have a filter applied to the
computer which will be removed at the parent’s or guardian’s
discretion. Patrons wanting more information regarding the filter may
inquire at the circulation desk.
Internet users will have a library card valid at the Sand Lake Town
Library. Internet use will not be allowed if there is an outstanding
balance owed or overdue materials are checked out on that card.
Internet users are granted Internet access for a thirty minute block
of time.
Internet users may reserve a block of time in advance. Unreserved
time will be granted on a first come - first served basis.
Late-comers for reserved time forfeit the unused portion of their
time.
If someone is waiting to use the Internet, those more than five minutes
late shall lose their time.
Due to the Library’s mission to act as a source of information,
the functions of email and chat rooms are prohibited.
Users may not download material onto the computer’s hard drive.
There will be a twenty-cent charge for each printed page.
Due to the high cost of ink cartridges, graphic printing is prohibited.
Any damage to the computer or its components due to abuse is the responsibility
of the user. Maliciousness may result in prosecution.
Violations of these guidelines may lead to suspension of the user’s
library card.
