Nassau Free Public Library

Computer and Internet Policy

As part of Nassau Free Library's mission to meet the information needs of Nassau residents, the library offers public access to the Internet through our computer. Access to the Internet enables patrons to explore a vast array of information beyond that contained in the Library's collection. The primary use of the library computers should be for education and reference.

While the library offers guidance to a wide array of useful and interesting Internet sites on the World Wide Web, some may contain inaccurate, controversial and even offensive material. The library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be responsible for its accuracy, authenticity or suitability of content.

Users are asked to remember that they are in a public building and to show consideration for others when viewing Internet sites.

  • The library requests that you refrain from pornography, games and chat rooms.

  • Parents and guardians are responsible for monitoring their child's use of the computer and Internet. Any restrictions of a child's access are the responsibility of the parent/guardian, not the library staff.

    • There can only be one standing reservation at a time.
    • Latecomers forfeit the unused portion of their reserved time.
