The Stephentown Library Book Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, February 4th.  They will discuss the book Fourth Uncle in the Mountain: a Memoir of a Barefoot Doctor in Vietnam by Quang Van Nguyen and Marjorie Pivar

This is an odyssey of a single-father folk hero…a monk and practitioner of ancient Chinese medicine and folk magic…and his adopted son in a land ravaged by the atrocities of war and where ghosts and magic are real.

Monthly Book Discussion Group meetings are held in the Community Room at the Library from noon to 1:00  p.m.  Bring a lunch if you like.  Copies of the book are available at the library desk.  New readers are always welcome.  For more information, call 518-733-5750.

New at SML – Words from the Hills

“Words from the Hills” a new monthly event at the Stephentown Library will meet on  Sunday, February 14th at 3:00pm.  The concept came from several residents of Stephentown and surrounding towns who share a love of finely crafted words.  Each event will be a roundtable for sharing poetry, short stories, and narratives.

Both writers and readers are invited to participate, sharing your writings or perhaps reading from another author’s book, poem, short story, or even something you may have found on the internet. The source is not important, sharing words which are meaningful or entertaining is.

There will be no performances, but you might hear a dramatic reading if someone is prepared to give one.  There’s no need to memorize and recite, although you may if you wish.  Mostly we will just go around the table – each person reading a work they have brought until we exhaust the hour or our supply.

“Words from the Hills” will be held on the second Sunday of each month.  Listeners are welcome.  Light refreshments will be available.  For more information call (518)733-5675.

The Stephentown Memorial Library is located at 472 State Route 43 in Stephentown, NY.  The library is handicapped accessible.

Chinese New Year Program

NEWYEAR

Chinese New Year Program – Presented by World Awareness Children’s Museum at SML on Saturday, February 27 at 10 AM.

The Celebrate Chinese New Year Program introduces traditions and customs of the Chinese people as they bring in the New Year. This celebration was selected to show students the significance of tradition within events that we celebrate in the United States and celebrations in other areas of the world.

The program offers an interactive introduction followed by hands-on opportunities for your students to experience traditional clothing, musical instruments, and cultural artifacts. Students will also make a take-home craft and put on a Chinese Dragon Parade!

Advance registration is appreciated.

Bring your child to Story Time

Story Time

Thursdays, 10 AM in the SML Community Room

Calling all preschoolers (and their caregivers)!  Join us each Thursday for some story time fun! In this half-hour session, we read aloud, sing songs, move about, and explore the world around us through literature. Parents and children are encouraged to stay after story time so children have time for free play while grown-ups browse for books and socialize.  Story Time is led by Rebekkah Corbett, a local educator.

Registration is encouraged but not required. For more information, stop by the Library or call us at 733-5750.
