UHLS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO RETIRE

At the UHLS Board meeting on Wednesday, January 13th, Executive Director Philip Ritter announced his retirement effective August 1, 2010. Mr. Ritter has been the Executive Director since July 3, 2000 and has shepherded the System through some very major decisions and improvements in services. In his letter of retirement, he noted that: “While I have thoroughly enjoyed living here and working for the Upper Hudson Library System, I find myself increasingly drawn towards returning to my home state of North Carolina. Thank you for the opportunity that you have given me to serve the Upper Hudson Library System for these last ten years of my career. It has been a real pleasure to know and work with the UHLS staff and Board of Trustees, as well as with the staff and boards of the member libraries. I will always look back upon my time at UHLS with fond memories.”

Board President LouAnne Lundgren is in the process of forming a Search Committee which will seek to have a new Director on board by August 1st.

Where’s Henry Hudson?

As part of the LSTA grant* “Explore Your Shore: Discovering Community History @ Your Library,” families can check out a life-sized Henry Hudson doll to accompany them on adventures to local historic sites. Henry is shared with the Albany County Convention and Visitors Bureau and travels throughout the area to promote the Hudson Quadricentennial. Click here to see Henry’s travels in the region and contact Mary Fellows for more information.

Our Henry Hudson is now a star of stage and screen! (Well, at least screen.) Check out the video one East Greenbush family made to encourage others to invite Henry along on local adventures!

* Supported by Federal Library Services and Technology Act funds, awarded to the New York State Library by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.
