Interlibrary
Loan
Patrons may request materials not
owned by their local libraries from other UHLS member libraries, the
Central Library (Albany Public Library), the UHLS collection, the New
York State Library, regional academic and school libraries, and other
libraries worldwide.
To request items from other libraries within UHLS, simply use our catalog
and request the book online. Depending on availability, the book should
arrive in two to three business days
If you are a staff member in one of UHLS's member
libraries, you can request items that are not in our catalog on behalf
of your patrons. This can be done in the following ways:
- To request materials from other libraries in the Capital Region,
search CaDiLaC,
the Capital District Library Council's Regional Union Catalog. Once
the item is identified and its location determined, fax a request
directly to the owning library. You may also search
other area Online Public Access Catalogs (OPACs) directly.
- To request materials from the New York State Library, go to the
Library's catalog
to find and request items. Complete directions are at the New
York State Interlibrary Loan (NYSILL) page. If you do not know
your library's ID and/or password, please contact Upper Hudson Library
System.
- (staff only) To request items outside of our local area, please
review the guidelines
and follow the appropriate links on that page to request a book or
journal article.
UHLS provides training in interlibrary loan procedures
and subsidizes the cost of obtaining materials from other libraries.
For information on interlibrary loan procedures, policies, and training,
