Tibbits' Mansion
Hoosac School, Hoosick, NY

Tibbett's Mansion

The Tibbits Mansion (Hall) off Pine Valley Road, on Hoosac School's campus in Hoosick, NY, was built in 1860 by George Mortimer Tibbits. The stone mansion's Greek Revival design is based on the country estates that Tibbits saw on his travels in Scotland. The mansion was home to the Tibbits family until 1941, when it was deeded to the Hoosac School.

In 1952, Hoosac School moved to the Tibbits estate from its original location, which was adjacent to All Saints Church in Hoosick. Today, the Tibbits Hall Mansion holds the administrative offices of Hoosac School.

George M. Tibbits helped found the Walter A. Wood Mowing & Reaping Co. His son John was a president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. And John's son LeGrand Tibbits was a NY State Senator and friend to Teddy Roosevelt.
