Buskirks Bridge
Off NY 67 on Firehouse Road
Buskirk, NY

Buskirk Bridge

Buskirk's Red Covered Bridge was built around 1850 to replace a previous bridge built in 1804. This crossing had served the Great Northern Turnpike beginning in 1799.

The one lane single-span bridge goes over the Hoosic River in Buskirk on Firehouse Road and connects Rensselaer and Washington counties. The bridge is a 14 panel Howe wood truss bridge with diagonal wood timbers, vertical iron rods and wood bearing blocks. The dimensions of the bridge are 158 feet long, 22 feet wide, and 23 feet high to the roof peak.

It is the last remaining covered bridge in Rensselaer County and is listed on the National and State Registers of Historic places.

Source of historic text: As In Days Gone By a pictorial portfolio of life in the Town of Hoosick, printed in 1976, and a historical register sign near the bridge.
