I Spy My Hometown - Guilderland, NY


	Big red trucks come out these doors. (They used to be kept on the second floor.) The alarm was once a locomotive tire, To alert everyone that there was a fire.
Once a preserve for protected plants, And the butterfly Karner Blue, The land now houses a popular mall, Where people come all the year through.
	The highest point along the road, Was the resting place for leaders old. A beautiful place to mourn or play, People lay here at the end of their days.
The building will soon be ten years old. The knowledge it contains Is worth more than gold. Everyone’s welcome, so take a look. Check out a video, CD or book!
	John Veeder built this lovely house, In 1842. It sits unchanged atop a hill, The latticework porch is your clue!
Its Gothic style is quite unique, With decorative “gingerbread” on its peak. Once the home of a congressman, Now, it houses the history of Guilderland.
	First a schoolhouse with a bell, Then the Town Hall it became. Now cars with sirens park outside, Can you guess, what is its name?
A tavern welcomed people in. To rest and eat and talk with kin. Later, a museum of history, you know, It has an annual December Greens Show.
	It used to be a schoolhouse But it isn’t anymore. Its outside stones are quite unique, Like the bell that’s at its peak.
Apples in, apples out, White within and red without. The town met here two centuries ago, Now people wed in the gazebo.
	People come here to have some fun, To enjoy outdoors in the summer sun. The first fair was held in 1893, It’s still a cool place with rides and trees.
Named for Mrs. Cassidy’s patron saint, She had it built in Altamont. People often came here to pray, To worship God and start their Sunday.
	The cow is made of fiberglass, You can't help notice it when you pass. The store moved a lot before where it is now, There's a lot of history under that cow.
A covered bridge, a train to see, A waterfall, a swimming hole. Once there was a factory, Now you’ll find a fishing pole.
	Once a busy railway stop, Built in 1882, Children rode the train to school, And the mail was delivered there, too.
