McKownville Fire Station
1250 Western Avenue

McKownville Fire Station

The McKownville Fire Company was established in 1918. From 1928 to 1935 the Country Club Garage operated as the McKownville Firehouse. The fire truck was kept on the upper floor and was dispatched from the firehouse with a ramp. Early fire equipment included an alarm consisting of a locomotive tire that was hit with a sledgehammer. Other equipment was a two-wheeled hose cart with a chemical tank.

In 1933 land was given by the Shell Oil Company to the town for a firehouse on Arcadia Street. It was dedicated on April 6, 1935. The present building is located at 1250 Western Avenue in Mcknownville, and was originally built to be a firehouse. It has three bays and contains three pumpers and a squad truck.
