The Albany Hudson Railway and Power Company was organized in 1898-99 and an electric third rail system railroad built. This railroad went from Albany through the city of Rensselaer to East Greenbush, continuing on to the city of Hudson.

In 1909, the electric railway changed the name to Albany Southern Railroad. Then in 1924, it was known as the Eastern N.Y. Utilities Corporation. In 1929 the bus line from Albany to Nassau signified the end of the railroad era.

Today, the train depot and freight buildings on Electric Ave. remain and serve as apartment buildings.
