The Pinewoods Intersection

Intersection - July 15, 2002

The name of Greenbush came from the Dutch "Greene Bosch", from the pine woods covering the land. The early Town of Greenbush included the present Towns of East Greenbush, North Greenbush and a portion of Sand Lake.

Historians are not clear when the first settlers arrived, but there is indication that it was in 1628. The first settlement of the land was made by tenants under Patroon Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, prior to 1631.
