Harrington - Meracle House

Harrington-Meracle House

Constructed in the late 1700's, this house remained in the Harrington family until it was purchased by Harry Meracle in the 1950's. The Meracle family restored the house, taking great pains to preserve the historic structure.

The fortress-like construction of the house includes two-foot thick cellar walls and Italian marble underlying sills. The original construction brick was brought over from Holland.

When the Meracles purchased the house, a mysterious flight of stairs in the attic went to a trapdoor in the roof, which led to nowhere. The door was later swept away by a hurricane. The home is now the private residence of Francis J. Carpinello, Jr. and family.
