Waldenmaier-Britt Farm

George Waldenmaier, Sr. came from Germany in 1898, married Amelia B. Strohmaier, and started a homestead on Route 32 in 1908. He and his three sons ran a hotel and meat packing business. Albany Mayor Corning's uncle had a farm nearby called "Sunnybrook Farm" which held cattle on their way to the Corning Farm on Retreat House Road. Trefoil and hay were grown later. Waldenmaier's son Charles bought acreage from Corning's Uncle Parker in 1943 for a general farm on Route 32. Charles kept the farm as "Sunnybrook Farm" raising and selling apples to Freihofer's Bakery and wholesalers.

Immaculate grounds surround a huge picture-perfect barn and an 1808 brick and fieldstone federal style farmhouse that was built by Revolutionary War veteran Frederick Britt. Some of the bricks to make the house were first used as ballast in ships. Frederick Britt also cultivated an orchard here. The Britts are buried in a family plot on this homestead where the Waldenmaier family has lived and worked for 59 years.
