Motion (Zapala,Nonamaker) to approve December 1, 2000 minutes. Carried.

UHLS: P. Ritter
Automation RFP - DRA, Innovative, VTLS, EPIX, and SIRSI sent bids; Phil and the UHLS staff will look at them and then take them to Automated Services Meeting. A set will be in the Juvenile Review Room for any director to view.
Phil has met with 13 library directors and their staffs and 15 Board of Trustees.
Youth Services consultant has been hired and will begin January 31, 2001.
Jo-Ann Benedetti asked to have part time hours. She will work Monday and Thursday all day and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday until noon.
Applications for Training Specialist and Technology Specialist will be accepted until January 31. Then a search committee will be put together to review the applications and interview.
Numbers Tell the Story still has some slots available. The State Annual Report workshop and Library Wars are filled.
E-Rate filing as required by the state has to be to Automated Services by February 14, 2001 with a revised plan of technology.
Fabric of Freedom dates and places have been established. The Arts Council grant was accepted for $3600 instead of $5000.

UHLS Board: P. Nonamaker
By Law changes (which were e-mailed to each director) will occur at the next board meeting January 10, 2001.
The state is putting out construction grants in another round. Colonie has received money and can receive more for their project. Three libraries who initially got money for construction must appy again for different projects. PTRB, EGRN, HOOF, NASS, and RVLL aksed for and received applications. Grants will be awarded 90 days from the date the state awards money. Matching money must be in hand with proof from the bank at the time of application.
Wireless laptops were purchased; there will be a demonstration at the March Directors' meeting.
The Building and Grounds committee was folded into administration.
Bill Meredith's resignation was accepted; Phil Erlich, Vice Chairman, automatically moved into the Chairman position, according to the UHLS bylaws. A representative from Albany Public will be appointed.
ILL code was formally adopted.

YS - Discussed Summer Reading Club. Colonie will coordinate Battle of Books for all interested libraries. Middle School students who have read all the same books will field questions based on those books with a finale at the end of the summer.

Nuts & Bolts:
GUIL
A Book Nook was put together for an on going sale. It earned $700 for the month of December.

COHS
Gates Foundation training coming February 1 and 2. In Troy February 12, Lansingburg February 15, and Sycaway February 19.

RCSC
The boat is on display and a specialist with Dutch Atlantic Trade, Chip Reynolds, is in the area and will possibly be speaking.

EGRN
The Town Hall site will close February 23 and the library will reopen in the new building with a dedication March 4 at 12:30.

NASS
Received a check for $24,000, but had to give it back 24 hours later. It was meant for the Nassau County Public Library.

Old Business:
A meeting was held with Jeff Cohen @ Times Union. You have to know the right people in order for announcements and stories to get into the paper. There is a large turnover in staff so the contacts change frequently. He is to be invited for the February Meeting.

New Business:
No one contacted Bob about the Communication and Decision Making Committee. Bob and Carol Hamlin will meet initially to decide what we as directors need to know and a path that information should follow between UHLS Board, library directors, and UHLS staff.
