UHLS updates
SRC 2003 - Preview is here—Artwork, samples etc. were available
at the meeting.
School/Public Library cooperation – Mary
co-presented with Ann Sayers at school librarians conference last
week on this topic. She will send in delivery an evaluation checklist
already given to the school folks allowing librarians to assess
and work on their preparedness for cooperation.
New idea - a new offering of a book matched with
a website that displays clues to solve the book’s mystery
was around for viewing.
Training for Horizon—Mary asked for feedback
on training. Concern about book cover inclusion and link to Barnes
and Noble or Amazon were discussed. Joyce mentioned her plan to
cancel storytimes for the week we go live in order to take some
of the pressure off circ staff. Mary encouraged other librarians
to do the same.
News from You
Mary shared handouts from NYLA with a list for people to initial
if they wanted copies of any of the handouts. Joyce went to the
Poster Session, where she learned of a program in which teens took
pictures of themselves reading books in front of businesses, and
created bookmarks a la ALA’s “READ” posters. Business
sponsored the project.
Kim attended the “Fall Into Books” conference on Friday,
November 8 in Esopus, NY. It was a reasonable, wonderful conference.
Next year’s date is November 14, 2003.
Mary asked if there was interest in getting a group together to
see the new Harry Potter, as happened with the first HP movie. Kim
