The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick The Invention of Hugo Cabret Book Cover
When twelve-year-old Hugo, an orphan living and repairing clocks within the walls of a Paris train station in 1931, meets a mysterious toy seller and his goddaughter, his undercover life and his biggest secret are jeopardized. The story is told through captivating, rich illustrations and text. Is this a true “graphic novel” or a book that happens to be illustrated? Let’s talk about it! We’re also planning on having a film event (with food!) and an expert on early film put Hugo Cabret in the larger context of cinema’s history!

Print this form and drop it off to Trevor at GPL or Ms. Charbonneau at the GHS Library!

In the planning stages…
is the creation of a GHS/GPL Bookcrossing.com Traveling Books station. Each book will be registered online, and are free for people to take with them on a journey. Hopefully, these people will re-register the book, which will then tell us how far it traveled from Guilderland! We’ll chart our Bookcrossing locations on maps so we can see where in the world our books have traveled!

Reading Connections is a book group for teens and offers an optional, separate group for their parents. It’s also a collaboration between the Guilderland Central School District and the Guilderland Public Library. Everyone reads the same books over the course of a few months, and each month, there will be a book discussion/event at the Guilderland Public Library or school.
