Library Services Information

This page contains information about the services offered by the Castleton Public Library. For questions that are not answered by the following information, contact the Library Director.

How do I get a Library Card? You may obtain a library card by completing an application at the Main Desk of the Library. When applying, please bring a Driver's License or other identification containing a photograph.

Return of Library materials: A book drop is provided outside the Library in the Village. Hall. The book drop should be used only when the Library is closed. With the exception of interlibrary loan materials, materials may be returned at any other public library in Albany and Rensselaer counties without penalty.

Reserving Library materials: If a book or video that you would like is not on the shelf, go to the Main Desk and request that the Librarian reserve the material for you. When you next visit the Library check to see if the material is available, or call the Library to check on the availability of the material.

Loan of materials from other Libraries: Materials that are not in the collection of the Castleton Public Library can often be borrowed from other libraries. Ask the Librarian at the Main Desk for details.

What services are provided for visually/hearing impaired? Large Print Books and Books-On-Tape (Audiobooks) are available for loan at the Library.

Videos and Compact Discs: A small collection of videos and compact discs is available for loan. New titles are being added to keep the collection interesting and enjoyable.

Use of Library Computers: Two personal computers are available in the main room of the Library for use by the public. Programs on these computers include an automated card catalog and access to the Internet. A McIntosh IIci computer is also available that is compatible with the Schodack Central School District for homework assignments. Computer time can be reserved at the Main Desk after reading and signing the Library Computer Use Policy. The charge for printing materials from the computers is 10 cents per page.

Internet: Public access to the Intenet is available on the Library computers. Patrons must read and sign the Library Internet Policy before going online.

Photocopy Machine: A black and white copier is available for use in the main room of the library. Copies are 15 cents per page.

Fax Machine: A Fax machine in the Library may be used to send or receive faxes. Check with the Librarian at the Main Desk for policy and charges.
