Library Internet Policy

The Castleton Public Library offers access to the Internet as an additional way of meeting the information needs of patrons. While many sites on the World Wide Web and the Internet provide useful and interesting information, there are some that contain inaccurate, controversial and even offensive material. The Library cannot be responsible for information accessed over the Internet. The use of the Internet includes access to web-based e-mail programs.

  • Users must remember they are in a public building and show consideration for others when viewing Internet materials.
  • Patrons must respect copyright laws and licensing agreements.
  • The Library does not permit violation of any U.S. or State law or regulation, including but not restricted to acts of a threatening, harassing, or an obscene nature.
  • Use of the Internet or the Library's computer equipment by any individual to engage in an illegal activity or criminal behavior is prohibited.
  • Use of the Library's Internet service can be revoked for any violation of the Library's policy.

Parents and guardians are responsible for monitoring their child's use of the Internet. A person under the age of 18 must have a signed parental authorization on file at the Library to use the Internet. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult at an Internet workstation.
