The Upper Hudson Library System has been selected to participate in the Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest.
The Big Read provides citizens with the opportunity to read and discuss a single book within their community. It is designed to revitalize the role of literature in the nation’s popular culture, and to bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of its citizens. Through this initiative, the NEA is working with multiple partners across the country to encourage Americans to read for pleasure and enlightenment.
The Upper Hudson Library System, its 29 member libraries and local schools, academic institutions, and businesses will host over 100 programs and activities in Albany and Rensselaer counties during the month of May, all to promote the reading and discussion of Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God.
Please join us in celebrating this American classic!
