Municipal Building
Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY

Municipal Building

The village Municipal Building was erected in 1905 on the corner of Main and Wilder Avenue. Levi E. Worden was the architect. It was a two story brick building with a cupola on top. The second floor was a public library from 1907 until the Cheney Library opened in 1923. The former library rooms were used by the American Legion. The first floor was used for village offices, town offices, courtroom and meeting rooms. The cellar was a lockup, a temporary holding place for minor offenders of the law.

The building was destroyed by fire in 1973. Arsonists set it ablaze by tossing gasoline inside while the police officers were making their evening rounds of duty.

The new building was constructed on the same site in 1984. It is the hub of the village, home to dispatchers, police officers, village offices, and a courtroom.
